Dr. Ben S. Malayang III 

Dr. Malayang graduated from Silliman University High School in 1970. He finished college at the University of the Philippines-Dilliman in 1974, with a Degree of BA Philosophy.  He holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy and another Master’s degree in International Affairs (Southeast Asia Studies, Major in Economics, Minor in Political Science and Philosophy). He earned a Ph.D in Wildland Resource Science from the University of California Berkeley. 

Dr. Malayang authored several works on Forest and Environmental Policy and Governance, Biodiversity, Environment, Environmental Security, Environmental Philosophy and Ethics and Institutional and Environmental Transformations. He is among the scientist from over 100 countries who co-authored the Millennium Ecosystems Assessment which describes the environmental and socio-ecological state of the planet at the turn of the century. 

He serves as Member of the Board of the Coordinating Council of Private Education Associations of the Philippines, the Association of Christian Schools, Colleges and Universities in the Philippines; and the Private Education Retirement Annuity Association. He is the Philippine Country Representative to the Executive Committee of the Association of Christian Universities and Colleges in Asia.

Before his appointment as Silliman President, Dr. Malayang was Undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
