UPDATE: Silliman President on K+12 Preparations: (click to read) 'Not Risking is the Greatest Risk'
Silliman University is among the first in the Philippines to have developed a comprehensive plan for its implementation of the K+12 education reform program which goes full-swing by 2016.
The University’s implementation framework – which includes review and enhancement of curriculum, training of faculty, scheduling of classes and academic activities, revenue projections and cost analyses, and an infrastructure development plan – has provided assistance to some schools in Visayas and Mindanao in preparing themselves for K+12 implementation. An ad hoc committee was designated to conduct initial planning for K+12 as early as School Year 2009 to 2010.
This year, the Department of Education tapped Silliman as a training institution for all public school teachers in Negros Oriental and Siquijor handling Grade 10 subjects. This is to enhance their competencies in preparing public school students for senior high (Grades 11 and 12) by 2016.
“Experience college” is the University’s guiding theme for its Senior High program. The theme highlights the University’s earnest efforts to enhance the competitiveness of its offerings – from curriculum, training to laboratories and facilities – to ensure smoother entry into college or successful pursuit of interest or profession. The Univeresity has already appointed a Principal for Senior High. Construction of a new building for Senior High is also underway.
Silliman University is offering all four tracks in Senior High:
- Academic (Four Strands: ABM – Accountancy, Business and Management; HUMSS – Humanities and Social Sciences; STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; and GA – General Academic)
- Arts and Design
- Technology and Livelihood (TLE) and Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL)
